Macklemore made a pit stop at Power 105.1's Breakfast Club while in New York to speak on his newfound success from his smash hit with Ryan Lewis, "Thrift Shop." He also delved into how he wants respect as an MC, his battle with drug addiction and latest single "Same Love," saying the inspiration came from his urge to address a real issue that has been swept under the rug in hip-hop. "To me [Same Love] was like a bigger issue," Macklemore explains. "I wanted to put myself out there in a way that was real, hold myself accountable, hold hip-hop accountable because it's a very homophobic art form and not only just challenge myself but the listeners to talk about an issue that I feel really doesn't get addressed in hip-hop music."
