The request for a new trial in the case of Jennifer Hudson's family killings case has been submitted by the man convicted of murdering three of Jennifer Hudson's family members, AP reports.
William Balfour was convicted by a jury last month of first-degree after allegedly shooting Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in October 2008. Balfour was married to the Grammy-winning singer's sister and supposedly opened fire after discovering she was dating another man.
Should Judge Charles Burns let the conviction stand, sentencing is expected to follow.
Judge Burns will decide and argue the motion with Balfour’s attorneys. Cook County prosecutors and defense attorneys July 24.
