'Marvel Unlimited' App Appears For iOS; Read 13,000 Comics Online

K. Clark Posted March 11, 2013

If you're a subscriber to Comixology, it seems as if Marvel has stepped up to be competition to comic book fans worldwide.

Assuming you own an iOS device, the Marvel Universe has created another better way for its fans to follow the goings on within its realms. The comic company debut the Marvel Unlimited app for the iPhone and iPad, which will allow nerds and geeks alike to access Marvel's full 13,000 issue back catalog for a mere $60 a year, or $10 a month.

Subscribers can also keep up to six titles directly on their device for offline reading.

There are quite a few quirks for those who may jump the gun believing that the Marvel Unlimited app is as exciting as it sounds. The biggest problem, at least according to a series of tech blogs, is that the 13,000 comic backlog doesn't have much of an ordering principle. "While 13,000 back issues seems like a lot, there's not much rhyme or reason to the selection or continuity of what's available. And that doesn't make a lot of sense because when collectors are reading a series, they generally read them in order," said website TUAW.

This is the first native app for iOS granting offline access to Marvel's comic book collection, and regardless of issues, that, friends, is a reason to celebrate.
