Yet another journalist has joined the ethical infamy of Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass, who both go down in history as serial plagiarists.
Karen Jeffrey of the Cape Cod Times in Massachusetts is the latest reporter to be found out after an internal review at the paper reveal that she had been making up sources in her stories since 1998. In 34 of her stories, 69 sources were unable to be found. Since the investigation, Jeffrey has admitted to conjuring up false names and people.
Though no stories of great consequence were found to contain made-up sources, publisher Peter Meyer and editor Paul Pronovost, along with the Cape Cod Times, have confirmed that Jeffrey is no longer a part of the newspaper’s staff via a post on their website.
Jeffrey has yet to comment to any news outlets.
