Is Matt Lauer Getting Fired Over Today Show's Poor Ratings?

Is Matt Lauer Getting Fired Over Today Show's Poor Ratings?

Adelle Platon Posted December 3, 2012

It seems that NBC's Today Show has been stuck in a slump since its former co-anchor Meredith Vieira departed. Ask Ann Curry, who left the show this past summer, and she'll be able to vouch for the pressures to maintain high ratings.

But now it seems Matt Lauer is becoming the target for 'Today's' poor performance. According to the New York Post, that rumor is false.

“There is absolutely no truth to this,” 'Today's' executive-in-charge Alexandra Wallace tells Page Six. “There have been some recent outrageous claims regarding Matt and the 'Today' show, and an awful lot of piling on from nameless, faceless sources. These stories are wrong and irresponsible."

While ABC's Good Morning America has returned to the no. 1 spot in morning news, some feel Lauer shouldn't take the fall for low ratings. “Sadly,” NBC News President Steve Capus told The Daily Beast, “this is the era in which we live: Venomous tweets somehow threaten to drown out all of those who praised Matt for his coverage."
