Mavado Granted US Work Visa; Returns To New York City

Posted July 5, 2011

With a newly reinstated US work visa, reggae-dancehall don Mavado returned to New York City earlier this morning

, hitting Hot 97's Bobby Konders and Jabba show for an interview.

In 2009, Mavado’s US visa was revoked without a clear reason. However many believed the revoked visa was due to his support of Christopher “Dudus” Coke, the alleged Jamaican drug kingpin and supposed head of the infamous “Shower Posse” gang, who was captured June last year. The new school dancehall artist is added to the list of reggae acts to also have their permits taken, which includes Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Busy Signal & former rival, Vybz Kartel, who he made a truce with that year.

For those unfamiliar with the name, Mavado is responsible for dancehall anthems ""Weh Dem a Do (Gangsta For Life)" and most recognizable 2009 smash, "I'm So Special." To put a face to to the name, Mavado is the spooky gangster that had Drake shivering in his timbers in his crooner Thank Me Later track, "Find Your Love". --Shabazz
