Meet Brooklyn’s Baddest Preteen Rockers: Unlocking The Truth

Malcolm Brickhouse, Jared Dawkins and Alec Atkins have what some call an “unusual” taste in music for preteens.

The three sixth-graders hailing from Brooklyn, New York are inspired by some of the world’s greatest heavy metal artists including Chelsea Gin, Motionless in White, Escape the Fate, SlipKnot, Metallica, Disturbed and countless others.

With Malcolm on electric guitar, Jared on drums and Alec on bass – the Flatbush trio are known as heavy metal/hard rock band, Unlocking the Truth. Malcolm and Jared first started crafting original music in 2007 under the band’s original name, Tears of Blood, at the tender age of five. Performing on the streets of NY, Amateur Night at the Apollo, countless festivals and more, Unlocking the Truth have a message behind their music: just be yourself.

After listening to the boys rock out, you forget that they are all 11-years-old. Their instrumental talents are on a level of bands like Black Sabbath who spent years perfecting their guitar and drum solos. As far as songs go, if you close your eyes and listen you can find yourself getting lost in their lyrics of love and school day blues.

The groups ultimate goal “is to become one of the world’s best heavy metal bands,” according to the bands website.

No stranger to recording their music, the heavy rockers are working on releasing two CD’s this summer, Physical Therapy and self-titled CD, Unlocking the Truth.
