Word on the street is that Bruce Willis, longtime comrade of The Expendables franchise, is out and that Sly Stallone is looking to enlist reinforcements.
Confirming what many already were speculating, Sylvester Stallone has been dropping hints via Twitter the past couple of days about the future of his popular macho man series. Beginning with the announcement that Bruce Willis would not appear, Sly notes that veteran screen legend Harrison Ford had been added to the cast.
Also, Rocky confirmed the participation of Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas for the third Expendables movie. According to EW, Gibson will play the film's bad guy and since the Aussie actor has had his bouts with negative press the past few years, it'll be good to see him embracing the villain role.
Gibson, who will also play the baddie in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete Kills, is looking to pick up after his last couple of films (Get the Gringo and The Beaver respectively) failed to gain any fanfare.
The Expendables 3 is looking to pack the testosterone roster with more blockbuster names, as Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich are all rumored to join the ranks. While we expect confirmations for some of them soon, as it stands, the third installment will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey and Victor Ortiz.
Directed by Patrick Hughes, the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 15, 2014.
