Michelle Obama Stops By 'The Colbert Report' to Promote Joining Forces

Posted April 13, 2012

Michelle Obama has recently been on a late-night talk show binge—not to campaign for her husband’s re-election (we don’t think), but to promote Joining Forces, an initiative that aims to honors and support military families. Having already made appearances on The Late Show, Late Late Night, and The Tonight Show, our First Lady stopped by The Colbert Report  on Wednesday night.

Wednesday also marked the first year anniversary of Joining Forces, as Ms. Obama explained to Stephen Colbert how it first came to be:

"Jill Biden and I started this initiative to make sure that this country, which is a grateful nation, that we make sure that we do whatever we can to honor the service of our veterans, our troops and their families,” she said.

Colbert then asked if everyday citizens could help these troops and their families privately.

“Absolutely!” she said. “Our motto is everyone can do something. So this isn't big government. Government has a role to play, but it can't do everything."

Colbert tcapped off the interview on a much more serious note by asking Michelle about her favorite show on Nickelodeon.

"That's a tough one. iCarly is about 16 and she's real deep,” she joked. -- Tanya Tianyi Chen
