Kelly Clarkson wasn't the only person out there who didn't know who Miguel was prior to the 2013 Grammy Awards. Apparently, there were a lot of other people who were unfamiliar with him as well. Because, although his hit single, "Adorn," has been out for months now, it enjoyed a 229 percent sales bump last week, as Miguel was able to move more than 44,000 copies of it in the wake of his performance at the Grammys.
As a result of all that success, Miguel appeared on the cover of a special "Grammy Issue" of Billboard recently next to the cover line, "Who Really Won the Grammys?" And, in the accompanying interview, he talked about what it was like for him to find out that he had won his first Grammy for "Best R&B Album" just prior to the start of the ceremony back on February 10.
"I found out in the car as we were pulling up to the red carpet," he revealed. "It was an 'Oh, s---' moment. I had my girl with me and it was like, 'How crazy is that? And I get to perform?' It was just a great feeling."
Miguel also talked about the performance he did with Wiz Khalifa at the Grammys show.
"A week-and-a-half out, we knew that we could perform," he said. "I wanted to make an intimate thing but I had a bigger vision about the crowd. I got to tip my hat to [telecast producer] Ken Ehrlich—he really had the vision. I did want it to be a stripped-down performance, and it really was genius of him to put us in the aisle."
Miguel has a lot of other performances scheduled, too. He's about to head out on tour with Alicia Keys next month. So, keep an eye out for him coming through your city soon.
