The prominent Nigerian musician has been recognized as the creator of Afrobeat, a style which fuses jazz, funk, rock and cultural African chants and rhythms. His political views flowed through his songs and his disagreements with the militaristic Nigerian government during the 70's and 80's, propelled Kuti to the forefront of national notoriety.
Streetwear brand Milkcrate Athletics, has placed the inspirational leader on a new t-shirt to further portray rebellion and the powerful message Kuti preached throughout his lifetime. The shirt depicts Kuti in concert, next to an African emblem and the title of one of his most famous songs, "V.I.P." crossed out. On the left sleeve, the phrase “Vagabonds in Power” is written out.
