It's like an episode of the Emmy-winning sitcom itself come to life. Three cast members from Modern Family, the ABC comedy that puts the "fun" in family dysfunction, found themselves stuck in an elevator on Friday. Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were in Kansas City to attend the Boys & Girls Clubs fundraiser when their crowded -- 15 people, including Stonestreet's mother -- elevator at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center broke down on the third floor.
It was serious enough to warrant a rescue from the Kansas City Fire Department. The Kansas City Star reported that the KCFD had to "work their way down from the 40th floor to reach and free the trapped people."
Stonestreet, who grew up in Kansas City, tweeted a photo of the incident. "I honestly handled being stuck in an elevator for 50min better than I thought. All J Jesse Tyler did was pass wind," he joked.
Ferguson captured footage of the hold up and rescue on video. The video shows co-star Julie Bowen being escorted by a fireman out of the stalled elevator.
The trio ended up arriving an hour late to the fundraiser and cracked elevator jokes the rest of the evening.
