Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives isn’t the only spring album dedicated to African music. Knitting Factory Records will release Fela! – Original Broadway Cast Recording on Tuesday (June 8).

Fela! – Original Broadway Cast Recording features music from the critically acclaimed Broadway play Fela!. The soundtrack features 16 Fela Kuti classics like “Zombie,” “Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsense,” “Water Get No Enemy/Egbe Mi O” and more performed by Sahr Ngaujah as Fela singing with members of afrobeat band Antibalas.

“We worked incredibly hard, and have had amazing and talented people on board to create what we think is one of the hottest, sexiest, entertaining and unique Broadway experiences today,” says the show’s producer Stephen Hendel. “We’re working equally hard to make sure that’s captured in the cast record.”

Based on the life of Nigerian born Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, also known as “King of Afrobeat,” FELA! Uses Kuti’s music to explore his life as an artist, political activist and revolutionary. The soundtrack is available for pre-order at www.FelaOnBroadWay.com. ⎯Starrene Rhett
