This year, Nas' pristine debut Illmatic shall turn 20 and to celebrate the lyrical feats of the rap god over the past two decades, VIBE will be honoring the multi-platinum rapper at its second annual Impact Awards.
The invitation-only gala, which salutes entertainers and figures who have shifted pop culture, will take place Jan. 24 right before the Grammy weekend kicks off at a secret location in Los Angeles.
VIBE's Editor-in-Chief Jermaine Hall describes Illmatic as "arguably hip-hop’s most flawless piece of work. Nas’ ability to clearly capture his surroundings in song is a special talent."
Nas' most impactful collaborators have also been recruited to honor VIBE's Summer 2013 cover star.
Last year's ceremony honored Mary J Blige at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood.
"Mary is a legend. She's an OG in the game," Big Sean, one of the attendees, said. "She's somebody who told her story, kept it authentic, kept it real." Other guests included Sean "Diddy" Combs, Queen Latifah, SWV and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
