Nas Says Amy Winehouse Collaborations Almost Never Happened

Nas Says Amy Winehouse Collaborations Almost Never Happened

Charley Rogulewski Posted December 1, 2012

It's old news that Nas and Amy Winehouse shared the same Sept. 14th birthday. "We connected like that," the "One Mic" rapper told VIBE in a recent sit-down.

But truthfully, the two connected much more than just on the calendar. The late soul singer, who lost her battle with addiction in July of 2011 at the age of 27, was a huge fan of Nasir Jones. "Me And Mr. Jones," a shout out to the Queens rapper, appeared on her timeless Back to Black LP, long before the two had even met. Eventually the two music geniuses would connect via producer Salaam Remi for two tracks -- "Cherry Wine" which appeared on Nas' 2012 album Life is Good and "Like Smoke," which appeared on Winehouse's 2011 posthumous album Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures. Nas sat down with VIBE to discuss how it all almost never happened. Listen to history in the making below.
