NBA tampering – ’tis the season!

The NBA will fine three teams, including the Atlanta Hawks, for tampering after some “inappropriate” comments concerning pending free agents that aren’t exactly free yet.

NBA tampering is an annual part of basketball, just as it is in the NFL. Teams looking to sell season tickets or ushering in new GMs feel the need to mention potential free agents just to get a buzz going.

Unfortunately, the NBA considers that tampering, and has fined three teams an undisclosed amount. They did not release which teams, but one is definitely the Hawks, who mentioned courting Dwight Howard and Chris Paul in free agency in an email to fans.

It’s still NBA tampering until July 1, so teams had better hold their horses.
