A New York City woman filed a lawsuit against Mac Cosmetics after she contracted Herpes at a Rihanna concert. As ridiculous as this sounds, the woman has a case, if she can prove it.
28-year-old Starkeema Greenidge of Harlem says she attended Rihanna's concert at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on May 7. There, she came across the Rihanna-endorsed Mac Cosmetics pop-up shop. Mac and Rihanna locked in a multi-collection deal in February and launched the first offering from the partnership this May-- Rihanna's RiRi Woo lipstick, a spin-off of Mac's popular vamp red Ruby Woo lip color.
Greenidge alleges that the pop-up shop employee applied the RiRi Woo lip color but "didn't use a fresh or new lipstick tube, but rather one that had been used for other patrons." Two days later she found a cold sore on her lip that a doctor diagnosed as oral herpes.
In her lawsuit, Greenridge says that Mac should have known they were "exposing patrons to possible spread of disease." She is calling for the future use of disposable lipstick or sanitised swabs.
“I wasn’t able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money,” Greenidge told the NY Daily News. She is seeking unspecified damages for the "mental anguish and emotional distress" ... oh, and the fact that she now has Herpes.
Not the best publicity for RiRi's Woo lipstick. But don't worry about landing any on your lips. The color is sold out.
