Olivia & Drake's "Control" Producer Releases Statement

Olivia & Drake's "Control" Producer Releases Statement

Posted April 13, 2010

Earlier today, VIBE reported that Drake's guest verse on Olivia's buzz single, "Control," was indeed unauthorized.

The singer denied being aware that the track—produced by Montreal DJ Raffi "Special K" Kenadjian—was not recorded exclusively for her collaboration, stating that she had no intention of including it in her forthcoming second album, Show The World. Drake also addressed the issue to AllHipHop, apologizing to his fans for being "duped into thinking that ‘Control’ was a collaboration [with Olivia]"

With clarifications from both Olivia and Drake, the only person left silent was Kenadjian, but the producer released a statement painting his take on the matter: "Drake's performance on Olivia's "Control" was paid for by Souled Out Records. Souled Out Records approached the then up-and-coming artist in 2007 in recognition of his talent. Souled Out Records is shocked to hear that Drake has not authorized Souled Out Records to use his recorded performance, as the service was already paid-for," he says. "Olivia's contribution, through Dollaz Unlimited, elevated the reach of the record and was a win-win situation for Dollaz Unlimited, Souled Out Records and DJ Finesse."

Kenadjian also stated that Souled Out made several attempts to reach out to Drake. No comment was made addressing the track's original vocalist, Leia, who recorded an undisputed version with Drake, titled "All Night," in 2007. —Tracy Garraud
