Ellen DeGeneres’ Epic Oscars Selfie Breaks Twitter Record
Ellen DeGeneres’ epic selfie at the Oscars made Twitter history last night (March 2). The comedian, who had the crowd doubling over by either ribbing the industry’s elite or ordering pizza for Hollywood, decided to capture a moment in time.
Midway through the 86th Academy Awards, Ellen decided to go for the title of Most Retweeted Photo, grabbing up a Who’s Who of nominees and presenters including Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Lupita N’yongo, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey and Channing Tatum for the best selfie of ALL TIME. Even N’yongo’s brother photobombed the star-studded snapshot.
Ellen only had one quip about the photo, “If only Bradley’s arm was longer,” before calling it the, “Best photo ever.”
The photo exceeded the most RT-ed photo, an accolade previously held by President Barack Obama, who tweeted a photo of him embracing wife Michelle, with the caption “Four more years”, signifying his second term in November 2012.
The biggest wins of the night came from Lupita, dressed in a customized Cinderella-esque gown by Prada, who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years A Slave, which also took the Oscars’ highest honor for Best Picture.
