Teena Marie, award-winning singer-songwriter, died in her sleep on December 26th apparently due to a seizure. The performer leaves behind a musical legend, memories, family and friends.
Long time friend of the star and comedian, Paul Mooney, reflects on Marie’s Motown days with Hard Knock Radio: “I used to open for her in Beverly Hills and other places when she was with Rick James. When Motown signed her and released her album they didn’t put a picture on it and when they did put her picture on it black people went into shock. We couldn’t believe it,” says Mooney.
“She was tough. I love me some Teena Marie—she was bad. She was badder than all of them,” says Mooney.
