Pepsi Introduces Fat Blocking Soda

Evan Schwartz / November 14, 2012

A diet soda that actually helps you diet? So claims Pepsi, which has launched a new, allegedly fat-blocking soda in Japan. The new drink contains dextrin, an indigestible fiber that will allegedly help you feel full more quickly, thus preventing you from eating more. The fiber will also help the body absorb less fat – allegedly.

The health benefits come from lab testing on rats, so it remains to be seen if consumers in the Japanese market will suddenly start chugging soda and dropping pounds. Don’t go rushing to your local store, however, because the drink will most likely never hit the shelves in the US thanks to stricter FDA regulations. Sodas fortified with vitamins are not allowed in the US, so back to the gym for you!
