Producer Shawty Redd Turns Himself In For Murder
Atlanta producer Shawty Redd, best known for crafting hits for Young Jeezy and producing Snoop Dogg’s comeback hit “Sexual Eruption,” has turned himself into police for murder.
According to GyantUnplugged, the producer got into an argument at his Georgia home with another man, who allegedly threatened him. Redd (real name Demetrius Stewart) reportedly got his gun and shot and killed the man, claiming self-defense. He turned himself into the Henry County Police Department early this morning following the incident.
In February, Redd, who produced Jeezy’s “Hypnotize” and “Who Dat” and Gucci Mane’s “Trap House,” spoke to VIBE about music becoming his savoir as a teen. “I was depressed when I was a kid so my piano was my only savior,” he recalled.
Years later, his fate changed.
“My electricity bill was like $600 [once] and I didn’t have the money to pay it. At the time, I didn’t really have any homeboys that I could call but Jeezy. I was hoping that his number was still the same. When I called him, he was like, ‘What’s up, boy?’ He was telling me, ‘I’m ready to rap. I’m ready to take it serious now.’ I said, ‘Man, I’m broke. I have some dudes coming over. But my electricity got cut off. I need about $600.’ He was like, ‘I’m on my way. I got you’…I ended up getting $6,000 and he ended up getting a deal.”
Most recently, Redd flew out to Belize to executive produce Shyne’s upcoming album. In early December he was featured in the New York Times, with fellow producers Zaytoven, Drumma Boy, and Fatboi “whose work over the past four years has come to exemplify the modern Atlanta sound: triumphant but moody, synth-heavy with sharp snares, all sprinkled with almost gothic overtones.”
Redd is expected to be arraigned Saturday morning. –Linda Hobbs
