R. Kelly Makes History As Most Nominated Soul Train Act

VIBE Posted September 19, 2012

The 2012 Soul Train Awards is headed to Sin City for its annual celebration of music and honors.

R&B veteran R. Kelly makes history as the most nominated artist in Soul Train Awards History, surpassing both Michael Jackson and Beyoncé with 21 total nominations in his career. He also has two nods for Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's award and Album of the Year. Usher has the most nods, with five potential awards including Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

British songbird Estelle leads the ladies with three nominations including Song of the Year for "Thank You" and Best Female Soul/R&B Artist. Rapper Nas also receives three nominations, including Album of the Year for Life is Good. Trey Songz, John Legend, Tyrese and Wale will compete in the Song of the Year category.

The late Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse each received a posthumous nomination: Whitney Houston in the Best Gospel Inspirational Performance category for her collaboration with Jordin Sparks on "Celebrate" from the Sparkle soundtrack, and Amy Winehouse in the Best International Performance Category for "Our Day Will Come." A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented to New Edition

Emanating from Planet Hollywood's PH in Las Vegas, the event will be hosted by funny man Cedric the Entertainer. The line-up of artists set to perform is soon to be announced. Catch the 2012 Soul Train Music Awards on BET and Centric Sunday, November 25th at 9pm.
