Rumor has it that Flint, Michigan native Jon Connor has signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. The news started to surface after the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards on Sunday night in Atlanta. Connor popped up in one of the award show's notorious cyphers, alongside rappers Wax, Rapsody, Emis Killa and Rittz, where he revealed the news.
2013 has been good to Connor. He dropped his debut Unconscious State this past July and it hit No. 7 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and No. 35 on the R&B/hip-hop charts. Not bad for a self-released record. The LP featured Talib Kweli, Smoke DZA and other Michigan rappers like Slaughterhouse's Royce Da 5'9" and Lyric Da Queen.
The above photo of Connor surfaced a few weeks after his album's release. "...I made it through Dr. Dre's chopping block of potential," Connor told MLive at the time. "Just to know he sees something in me, or that he respects what I do, or has an appreciation for what I bring to hip-hop, is something I put on my mantle."
So far, BET has only released one cypher from their 2013 awards show featuring newcomers Asia Sparks, Bad Lucc, Problem and Astro. You can watch that here, but you'll have to wait and see the others in the lead up to the show's Oct. 15 air date on BET.
