Green Day - American Idiot (2004)
There's a lot that can be said of the pop-punk trio's seventh full length studio album, from its major departure in sound and structure and blunt-yet-poetic political messaging, to its dominance during awards season in the rock categories. But often overlooked is its multi-faceted album cover—which speaks to many of the record's themes. On one hand, it is representative of revolution in its purest form, thanks to the iconic "raised hand" image. On the other, the idea of the heart and hand grenade pictured as one sums up the story of this one-of-a-kind concept album. The stark contrast of the red, white, and deep red colors is particularly vivid, just like the detailed narratives of the record.
