Jennifer Lopez is confirmed as the newest judge on Fox's American Idol, according to reports. After months of speculation, the singer/actress has signed on the dotted line for a reported $12 million.
A source told People that Jenny from the Block is “very excited” about the new opportunity. Maybe because J.Lo hasn't had much success with the songs leaks from her upcoming album, Love, i.e. "Louboutins" and "Fresh out the Oven." To boot, her most recent film, The Back-Up Plan, released in April, has grossed $77 million worldwide. Good luck to J. Lo, though.
As for American Idol, the franchise has been declining in the past few years thanks to dipping ratings—the previous ninth season finale were the lowest since the show debuted.
Recent months have been like musical chairs. The original three judges were show co-creator Simon Cowell, music producer Randy Jackson and pop star Paula Abdul, who left in 2009. Her replacement, Kara DioGuardi, quit earlier this month, and Ellen Degeneres, who has her own NBC talk show, put in her pink slip in July following Cowell’s departure in May. Jackson is still a judge on the show.
Auditions for the 10th season of American Idol begin in mid-September and the season is scheduled to air in January 2011.
