Break From Toronto
“Break From Toronto” represents a sonic break in the tape and showcases PND’s rapping skills. Over an undulating beat, he raps in a sleepy Drake-esque way with Southern influences sprinkled throughout.
PND slows it down and spills out his broken little heart on “TBH.” It’s nice to hear him sing without being inundated by the Auto-Tune that pervades every other track. Wonder what this guy sounds like acapella?
Wus Good / Curious
“Wus Good/Curious” sonically follows “TBH.” Aside from PND’s overly extended way of singing “Cummmmm,” we really dig this one. This might be the closest that PND sounds to that “other Canadian singer” The Weeknd.
Over Here (Feat. Drake)
Nine tracks in and finally we get some Drake. PND plays a nice supporting role to the OVO capo on “Over Here.” Drake raps about Cash Money being the new Roc-A-Fella and somehow rhymes “picking up his Ethiopian goddess” with “a Bugatti in the projects.” Brilliant.
The tape’s hypnotic close finds PND showing off his baller status and claiming that he’s “out of your league.” Clichéd topic aside, the song features lush, ambient sounds and is rather beautiful. The party may be over, but we want to hear more.
