The royal baby has arrived.
After months of watching the throne, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton welcomed their first son at 4:24 pm local time on Monday (July 22) in London's private St. Mary's Hospital, weighing in at 8.6 pounds, CNN reports. The prince was said to be present for the birth.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are excited. Middleton and her child are said to be doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.
The announcement was made in line with royal tradition after Queen Elizabeth II was informed about the baby's birth. The palace had announced early Monday that Middleton had gone into the early stages of labor.
Married since April 2011, William and Kate announced they were expecting back in December of last year.
Congratulations to William and Kate!
