Imprisoned Dancehall star Vybz Kartel found himself in international news headlines
early this morning. Various reports from Jamaica hit the Web on a daring prison break by Kartel and a crew of prisoners.
A number of outlets ran stories on the singer leading an escape that supposedly left one prison official dead and 12 others wounded. However, the JamaicaObserver has confirmed the rumors to be completely false.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the paper early this morning that he had no knowledge of the reported jail break.
"I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would would certainly have known," Green said.
Police at Denham Town Police station and nearby news network Constabulary Communication also said they are unaware of any incident
"It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don't need to spread rumors to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time," one cop told the Observer.
Kartel remains in custody on multiple murder and drug charges.
