Russell Simmons has plans to join his brother Rev. Run in the entertainment phenomenon that almost seems to be bigger than hip hop: reality television.
According to the New York Daily News, Simmons has signed on with the Oxygen network to star in his own reality show called The Russell Simmons Project. The show will allow cameras into the legendary mogul's world that is primarily ran by women.
"Throughout my career I have surrounded myself with people smarter than me," said Simmons. "This show will let them shine and provide insight into how we build our empire from the inside out."
The woman-factor creates a juicy spin to the show, particularly given the fact that hip-hop is notoriously centered on masculinity.
"Russell Simmons is a fascinating man, and seeing his world through the eyes of his dream team, comprised of strong, passionate women, provides a unique experience for our viewers," Amy Introcaso-Davis, Oxygen's senior VP of original programming and development, said in a statement Tuesday.
As of press time, no date has been set for the show's debut. -Linda Hobbs
