While football stans rejoiced the return of NFL season, tragedy struck the Packers-49ers game Sunday (Sept. 8) after a San Francisco team fan fell then died.
The fan reportedly fell from an elevated pedestrian walkway in Candlestick Park just after kickoff at about 1:30pm in the 49ers’ 34-28 win over Green Bay, the AP reports. Multiple sources say they witnessed the fan, who appeared to be intoxicated, fall to his death. No name has been revealed as of yet.
In another instance on that same day, two fans who were leaning against a barrier above Oakland's locker room were injured after the railing collapsed during the Colts-Raiders game in Indianapolis.
"We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," 49ers spokesman Bob Lange told the AP in an email, confirming that the team had learned of the accident.
