Sean Garrett has laced some of today's most sought out female artists with distinctive bangers and upbeat melodies.
On a recent visit to VIBE HQs, the super-producer pointed out the unique characteristics of working with three top-tier lady vocalists: Brandy, Kelly Rowland and Nicki Minaj. "All of them have their own high expectations," Sean admits. "They're beautiful super-duper talented young ladies."
Garrett says that 2012 was an optimal time to collaborate with songbird Brandy, given her personal and artistic maturity on her most recent LP Two Eleven. "Working on a Brandy album [now] was really exciting but very emotional," he says. "She had a lot of things that she had went through in the past. "Put It Down" was a very happy and dynamic record about love and relationships but there were emotional records like "Sick." We also brought out her sexy side."
Kelly Rowland also brought the heat when she called on Garrett for her steamy record, "Ice," which was accompanied with a fiery visual. "I'm excited to see the video and a lot of people are talking about it. Kelly is doing really, really well."
As for Head Pink Chief Nicki Minaj, Garrett says he never knows what to expect. "Working with Nicki goes without saying. She's very unpredictable and very dynamic. She knows how to work that camera and work a brand."
Beyond cooking sessions in the stu, the beat master is also working on building his own roster of artists including singers Reign (Universal Def Jam) and Nick Gardner (Interscope) who are signed to joint venture deals with his Bet I Penned It imprint. Though tight-lipped about his extracurricular endeavors, he hints that a restaurant, reality show, clothing line and books are in the works.
