Bert and Ernie may be Sesame Street‘s most beloved duo, but The New Yorker takes their friendship to a whole other level with their most recent cover.
Sitting in front of a 1950′s style television in a close embrace, the iconic characters are depicted as a gay couple celebrating the end of the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8.
The now iconic image was originally submitted to a Tumblr by artist Jack Hunter who is happy to see it receive national recognition.
