Sherman Hemsley of 'The Jeffersons' Dies at 74

Sherman Hemsley, known for his role as George Jefferson on the classic television series 'The Jeffersons,' has passed away.

El Paso authorities told TMZ that Hemsley died in his Texas home. Reasons for his death have not been confirmed. However, TMZ reports that the veteran actor was discovered by his nurse, who assumed Hemsley was sleep. It's assumed he died of natural causes.

The beloved actor, who was also a professional singer, had no wife and kids. Hemsley appeared in 30+ television shows and 15 films, but he's best known for his roles in All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Amen.

Hemsley was 74-years-old at the time of his death.
