Showrunner and creator Shonda Rhimes is hitting a streak, as she has sold another project for the 2014-15 development season.
The untitled comedy entry, culled from Cougar Town co-executive producers Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, revolves around a group of friends who are all brought together after an unexpected turn of events. Pietrosh and Goldstein will write the episodes, while Rhimes and her Shondaland partner Betsy Beers are on board to executive produce.
This deal marks the first comedy and overall third sale this development season under Rhimes' overall deal with ABC Studios. In related news, Rhimes and Beers are also teaming up with Dana Calvo (Franklin & Bash) for a cop drama titled Made in Jersey and K.J. Steinberg (Gilded Lilys) for Lawless, a drama about a maverick attorney inspired by the life of victims' rights lawyer Wynona Ward, founder of Have Justice Will Travel.
While Grey's Anatomy and Scandal are still considered hot commodities, but the Pietrosh/Goldstein collaboration marks Shondaland's second attempt at comedy. Last year, Rhimes and Beers teamed with critically-acclaimed writer Issa Rae for a comedy called I Hate L.A. Dudes, which did not get picked up by the network.
As of writing this, there has been no word about casting yet, but we will keep you posted as more develops.
