Should Discovery Channel Be Allowed To Air It's Michael Jackson Autopsy Special?

Posted December 31, 2010

Michael Jackson's estate keepers have unabashedly fired off at Discovery Channel for their upcoming UK television special centered on the pop singer's controversial autopsy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of MJ's estate, penned a scathing letter to Discovery Communications president and CEO David Zaslav describing the scheduled program as "offensive [and] exploitative" to Michael's fans, family and legacy.

"Your decision to even schedule this program is in shockingly bad taste, insensitive to Michael's family and appears motivated solely by your blind desire to exploit Michael's death, while cynically attempting to dupe the public into believing this show will have serious medical value," they letter stated.

"We were especially outraged when a sickening print advertisement for the program appeared making light of Michael's death by depicting a corpse sprawled on a steel gurney covered by a sheet with a hand sticking out wearing Michael's signature glove," they added, calling the ad "debased, sick and insensitive."

Thus far 9000+ MJack fans have signed a petition demanding the show's cancellation before it's premiere Jan. 13.

No word yet from Discovery Communications if they will pull the plug or stick to their guns.
