Should parents lose custody of their children for not controlling their kid's weight? Dr. David Ludwig thinks so. Ludwig is an obesity specialist at Harvard-affiliated Children's Hospital Boston who has been making waves with his controversial opinion. He states that the point isn't to blame parents, but rather to act in children's best interest and get them help that for whatever reason their parents can't provide. Watch:
University of Pennsylvania bioethicist Art Caplan said he worries that the debate risks putting too much blame on parents. Obese children are victims of advertising, marketing, peer pressure and bullying — things a parent can't control, he said. At 1:28 in the video, he also added that the government needs to force food manurfacturing companies to make better food.
Caplan seems to make the most sense but it's also important that people get more education on the food that they eat because let's face it, most people don't read labels and just assume that if it's on grocery shelves then it's probably good for you. With that in mind, we dug up a snippet of an informative documentary entitled, Food Inc.
