Chris Liebing knows how to celebrate his birthday with a bang. In lieu of a low-key evening, the dark techno master decided to celebrate, alongside other birthday boy Dance.Here.Now.'s Rob Fernandez, by playing an open to close set (an impressive 11 hours!) for about 450 of his NYC friends and fans at Brooklyn's Output this past Sunday. The result was a striking techno journey with Liebing at the helm.
Approaching Ouput on the cold Sunday evening around 7:30 pm, the low frequency bass could be heard faintly pulsing through the walls. The line was already forming and the energy was high in anticipation. Once inside, it was not surprising to see the dance floor filled with partygoers and Liebing getting into it behind the decks. As the night progressed, Liebing intricately wove tracks like Carl Craig's remix of X-Press 2's "Kill 100", Pfirter's "Ahora" and Black Astroid's remix of Depeche Mode's "Soothe My Soul" into his dark techno web. From beginning to end, Liebing delivered a tireless and vibrant set making it impossible to leave the club nothing less than a sweaty mess.
With a prolific career that includes over 20 years of experience, multiple music labels including CLR and Spinclub Recordings, an ear for fresh talent, his own weekly CLR podcast, his Collabs live act with Speedy J, and numerous gigs around the world, Liebing enters into his 45th year with much to celebrate. Check out one of his recent sets below and consider making the pilgrimage to U.S.'s techno mecca next May at Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit to catch Liebing in action.
