"Skyfall" Puts James Bond At #1; Sets Record

"Skyfall" Puts James Bond At #1; Sets Record

VIBE Pop Culture Posted November 12, 2012

The box office was shaken, not stirred by James Bond's ascent to the top. Find out who rounded out the top ten after the break.

"Skyfall," the 23rd film in the wildly popular James Bond series, dominated the box office this weekend. The film which stars Daniel Craig in the titular role, alongside Dame Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe, easily took the #1 spot with a whopping $87.8 million gross take-home. It is only the fourth-best opening weekend of the year behind only "The Avengers," "The Dark Knight Rises," and "The Hunger Games," and crushed Bond's last effort, "Quantum of Solace," for the largest 007 film opening of all-time.

The movie averaged $25,050 from 3,505 theaters, adding to the limited Thursday opening for a total of $90 million domestically and $518.6 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. At the rate Craig and co. are heading, the explosive film which explores the roots of the franchise's most central characters, will obliterate the $594.2 million and $586.1 million worldwide that "Casino Royale" and "Quantum" made throughout their runs, respectively.

The rest of the weekend's box office chart-toppers can be found in the list below:

2. "Wreck-It Ralph" — $33 million
3. "Flight" — $15.1 million
4. "Argo" — $6.7 million
5. "Taken 2" — $4 million
6. "Here Comes the Boom" — $2.6 million
7. "Cloud Atlas" — $2.5 million
8. "Pitch Perfect" — $2.5 million
9. "The Man with the Iron Fists" — $2.5 million
10. "Hotel Transylvania" — $2.3 million
