Beyonce is fly, literally!
An Australian horse fly was named after Beyonce because its “bootylicous” golden bottom reminded researchers of the pop diva. The fly was captured by researchers in 1981, the same year Bey was born.
Bryan Lessard, researcher at Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, chose to acknowledge the fly’s beauty by naming it Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae.
Though he has not heard a response from the new mother, Lessard says that the name was chosen to raise awareness on the importance of studying insects and measuring human impact on the environment. --Jazmine Gray
