Star Spangled Blunders: 5 National Anthem Slip-Ups

Celebrities may get plenty of shine, but they’re still far from flawless. Last night, before the Hawks bodied the Lakers 109-92, Ms. Keri Hilson took to the court to sing our nation’s beloved National Anthem. Chalk it up to nerves or frail memory (she blames her audio), but the leggy chanteuse stumbled through some lines giving the blogs something to feast on til tomorrow. But as Keri soon tweeted after her fumble, this isn’t the first time our patriotic ditty has received a celebrity remix. Check VIBE’s short history of the most notorious “Star Spangled Banner” fails. Feel free to lower your volume. —Courtney Willis

R. KELLY – 2005→ The Pied Piper sure knows how to take public foolery up a notch. In this 2005 performance, Kellz scathingly delivered an abashed remix of Marvin Gaye’s classic 1983 NBA All-Star rendition. Slow claps never equal an applause.

MUSIQ SOULCHILD – 2007
When Musiq performed for the Michael Jordan High School Basketball Classic and brain-lapsed during the final bars it only took him a second to recover and save himself from a flurry of boos. Clap for him.

KAT DELUNA – 2008
Is it coincidence that we haven’t heard from Kat Deluna since this superfluous vocal butchering? Nope.
