State Property: Beanie Sigel Faces 3 Years In Jail For Tax Evasion
Beanie Sigel just can't seem to catch a break...
The Philadelphia native, to be sentenced in November 2011, was found guilty yesterday (August 9) for failing to file income taxes for three years. He faces up to three years in prison.
Sigel admits to not paying an estimated amount of $348,000 in taxes on $1 million of income between 2003 and 2005, but the government believes he also failed to pay taxes before 2003. Lucky for him, he won't be charged for the extra accusations dating back to the 1990s because the statute of limitations expired. His current debt to Uncle Sam will ultimately determine the length of his sentence.
This isn't Beans' first run-in with the law. According to Philly.com, the Broad Street bully served 10 months in jail for illegal gun possession in 2005. In 2008, he was sentenced to serve one day in jail and six months in a halfway house for violating his probation. At one point, he had even been accused, though found innocent, of attempted murder for a shooting in West Philly.
After a short hiatus, Sigel was gearing up fhior a comeback. Last month he performed with his group, State Property, at the first annual Atlantic City Summerfest. He was even working on a movie script for State Property 3. Just when it looked like the rapper was beginning to make a reappearance in the industry, he was slapped with charges. --Aliya Faust
