Director Greg Camalier recounts the unexpected events that led him to create Muscle Shoals, a 2013 Sundance documentary premiere about the legendary small Alabama town with a big sound.
In the film, Camalier interviews music's elite about the mystical, funky nature of the place. U2 frontman Bono, for one, calls it "where some of the greatest voices ever were," while the Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger admits that "being there does inspire you to do it slightly differently." The local talent and studios would birth the “Muscle Shoals sound."
In an interview above bustling Main Street at Sundance 2013, Camalier explains to VIBE the draw of this sleepy, northwest 'Bama town and its rich history.
