iCal This: Sven Väth Hits America

News

/ February 13, 2014

Sven Väth is one of those ubiquitous names in dance music scene that evokes a lot of buzz and fanfare.

Having been a fixture in dance music for over 30 years, Vath has gained legendary status that only few other can claim. Opening two clubs in Germany one of which, Omen, is considered the birthplace of techno in Germany, releasing hit “pop” songs in his native land, being one of the very first DJs to play trance, running one of the longest residencies at Amnesia in Ibiza, signing countless of talented djs (including Loco Dice and Guy Gerber) to his ever-popular label Cocoon Recordings, and so much more, has garnered him the respect that he commands. A true maestro of his craft using only two decks and a mixer, Väth only plays music released on vinyl, which makes his sets all the more unique.

Catching a Vath show has almost been elusive in the States as he has only played at Ultra Music Festival and WMC in Miami the last two years. So when he recently announced his 2014 World Tour, social media exploded with excitement. Although his new tour will take him throughout East Asia, Australia, South America and Europe, Vath will only make one stop in the States. Local fans and those dedicated enough to make the trek can catch him throwing his legendary Cocoon party at Sankeys in New York City on May 16, 2014. And with his last NYC appearance being in 2011, who knows when we’ll have an opportunity to see him again.
