T-Pain Writes a Sorry Rap to Jay-Z

Posted October 1, 2009

T-Pain leaked a new song to the Internet this week apologizing to Jay-Z for publicly dissing him last month during a performance in Las Vegas.

In the new track, where Pain croons over Drake's "Successful" instrumental," the singer blames the alcohol for the diss.

"So that Nuvo got me poppin' shit," Pain starts. "All right, so let's talk about this Jay shit / Some days I wish that I ain't never say shit / And Diddy said ain't no excuse for what I did / But I felt like he was knocking the same shit that feeds my kids / I do music 'cause I need it to make my world spin / So when you down it, it's like you dissing my girlfriend."

Later, as Pain continues to plead his case, he says that all Jay had to do to put the Auto-Tuned singer at ease--after dropping the damaging "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" track--is say he and T-Pain "were cool."

"If you really feel like I'm dead, then nigga me too / I ain't tryna write your rhymes / But you coulda skipped one DJ and all you had to say was 'T-Pain, we cool'," Pain rhymes. "But by all means don't take this as a diss or hatin' / I just wanna explain my side of the situation / So if you knew just how much respect I had / You'd know that I'm a real nigga when I say, 'My bad.'"

During a performance in Las Vegas in early September, T-Pain was caught on camera dissing Jay after a audience member yelled, "Jay-Z destroyed you."

T-Pain responded by saying "Fuck Jay," also calling him old.

Not only did fans catch the diss on camera but rapper Fabolous, who was in attendance, tweeted about it, later dissing T-Pain in Hov's defense.

In a radio interview days later, T-Pain explained his frustration with "D.O.A." and his disappointment that Jay never publicly said it wasn't a diss toward him. He apologized, and said there was no beef between he and Jay-Z or Fabolous.
