In an alternate universe, Kendrick Lamar may not have been Kanye West's plus-one on his Yeezus tour.
In a new interview with The New York Times magazine, KDot's label, Top Dawg Entertainment, revealed that they initially didn't want the Compton spitter to be the opening act. "We were actually trying not to do the tour, TDE president Terrence "Punch" Henderson said. "We wanted Kendrick to be recording the whole time."
Yeezy's team, however, "wasn't taking no for an answer," Punch added. Fortunately, Lamar was given a tour bus equipped with a mobile studio. West's persuasion also helped seal the deal.
"Kanye said he didn’t want to make it seem like we were just the opener," Lamar said. "It was dope to have the actual headliner of the show want my show to be just as good as his."
