Tech N9ne Speaks On Losing (And Regaining) Black Fans, ‘B.I.T.C.H.’

Tech N9ne has always been a hip-hop outcast, word to Big Boi and Andre. Which explains why his intense live shows—in which Tech dons face-paint—often find a shortage of Black faces in the crowd. Tech is sensitive to this discrepancy, a feeling he’s expressed in his new T-Pain-guested track “B.I.T.C.H.,” an acronym for “breaking in to colored houses.” The Kansas City MC, whose Something Else LP hit No. 4 on the Billboard top 200 after its first week with almost 60,000 copies sold, theorizes why many of his fans don’t look like himself, and why there’s been a recent upsurge.
