Tennessee Mother Convicted In Death Of Newborn Twins

A 26-year-old mother was found guilty by a jury Tuesday (Mar. 19) for having a hand in the death of her newborn twins.

Lindsay Lowe, of Nashville, Tenn., was convicted of felony murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse. She was immediately sentenced to life in prison by the judge, the AP reports.

During the trial, Lowe told police she had given birth alone on Sept. 12, 2011, in the bathroom of her parents' home.

Officials say that a family member discovered the newborn twins dead in a laundry basket two days later at the same residence with their umbilical cords still attached to a single placenta.

Lowe reportedly became pregnant during an affair while engaged and tried to hide the pregnancy from her fiancee and family. In her interrogation video, Lowe said she "maybe" smothered the babies.

"I was just trying to keep them quiet," she said.
