Skill set aside, Jets former backup quarterback Tim Tebow is a household name.
In fact, he's so relevant that Forbes has named the chunky left-handed slinger the most influential athlete in America. Tebow beat out Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt and Gabby Douglas for the top spot in the annual rankings. Super Bowl quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers were also listed after the "Tebowmania" star.
The financial magazine uses surveys from Nielsen and E-Poll market research to show which pro athletes have the most clout among U.S. fans, including each athlete's Nielsen measurement for a player's endorsement potential. Tebow received a whopping 29% in the influence category but failed to top that of swimmer Michael Phelps. Tebow, Phelps, Derek Jeter, Bolt, and Peyton Manning rounded out the top five on this year's list.
