Gossip guru TMZ is catching shade for its reporting on the Boston bombings, which has erupted into a viral hashtag on Twitter.
TMZ recently posted an article about the first suspect who was shot by officials titled "Dead Bombing Suspect Heavy Into Hip Hop," writing that Tamerlan Tsarnaev ran a hip-hop site called Real-hiphop.com.
They expand on the possible correlation by topping the post off with, "What's interesting...hip hop lyrics are notoriously violent and often degrading to women. Tamerlan Tsarnaev has a boxing profile in which he says he doesn't take his shirt off much because he doesn't want women to get bad ideas, adding, "I'm very religious." This statement is significantly more conservative than the hip hop genre."
A cascade of tweets poked fun at the perceived racist coverage, making #TMZReports the top trender on the social site. Users weaved in hip-hop references on the subject like one who quoted Drake: "#tmzreports that Boston police remain confused as to how the suspect started from the bottom yet is still there."
This isn't the first time the site has received some flack. When Lil Wayne was hospitalized for seizures, TMZ claimed Weezy was being prepped for his last rites though he later revealed he had epilepsy.
